Operating the SH-3 Sea King — one of the most important and recognizable helicopters in Naval Aviation history — HS-12 flew from aircraft carrier flight decks, hunting enemy submarines using dipping sonar, sonobuoys, and magnetic anomaly detection equipment. The Wyverns were a key component of the carrier air wing's inner-zone ASW defense, protecting the carrier battle group from submarine threats at close range.

The SH-3 Sea King was a versatile platform that served the Navy for decades in the ASW, search and rescue, utility transport, and VIP transport roles. HS-12's crew members — pilots, aircrewmen, and sensor operators — operated in the demanding overwater environment, flying from pitching carrier decks in all weather conditions to prosecute submarine contacts. The Wyvern, a legendary two-legged dragon from heraldry, was a fitting mascot for a squadron that combined the ferocity of a predator with the vigilance of a watchful guardian. HS-12's legacy lives on through the modern helicopter maritime strike squadrons that carry forward the ASW mission.

Perfect For: HS-12 Wyverns veterans, SH-3 Sea King crew members, helicopter anti-submarine warfare historians, carrier air wing alumni, and military patch collectors who honor the rotary-wing squadrons that hunted submarines.

The Wyvern watches — HS-12 hunted the deep.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0683/9222/2767/files/officially-licensed-us-navy-hs-12-wyverns-patch_1.jpg?v=1793025728
